Not all railroads are created equally with respect to clearances for height and weight. Often, bridge structures (either sub-grade or overhead) are the reason for clearance restrictions on a given rail line.
In order to maximize the efficiency of our customers and our railroad connections, The Maryland and Delaware Railroad Company (MDDE) strives to have all rail lines owned or operated by MDDE cleared to handle 286,000 lb. (gross weight) railcars as tall as 17’0” above the head of the rail (Association of American Railroads Plate F clearance standard), but it is a work in progress.
The following weight and height restrictions are currently in effect for each railroad line owned or operated by MDDE.
